KIDS SNOWKITING SIERRA NEVADA
We structure our kids snowkiting lessons differently to our adult lessons. Kids learn faster, have shorter attention spans and, most importantly, they need more personal attention to ensure their safety.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT TEACHING KIDS?
The Graykite team has been teaching the young and young at heart to snowkite and kite surf for over 14 years. This wealth of experience has informed our unique approach to snowkiting lessons for kids between the ages of 9 and 15.
Safety is our number one priority when teaching kids. The fact we are the only snowkiting school based in a ski resort means we have access to all the safety features you would expect when skiing, but other snowkite schools can’t provide. Our dedicated Sierra Nevada snowkite zone means your kids can learn in a safe, quiet environment without the interruption of skiers and boarders crossing their paths.
Children are impressionable, adaptable and tend to progress quickly. This is largely due to their sense of adventure, highly adaptable motor skills and lust for fun. We harness this adaptability and sense of adventure to help your kids learn quickly and safely.
WHO IS IT FOR
Kids, obviously! To be more precise, kids who can already snowboard or ski safely down a red run. If your kids need ski or board lessons before they start kiting, we highly recommend the courses run by our friends at White World.
Snowkiting combines two dimensions: kite and board/skis. Many kids already have some experience that works to their advantage. This can include sports like skateboarding and small kite flying. Also, any activities that help build balance and co-ordination will help them to master the snowkiting – for instance, ballet, football or gymnastics.
HOW DOES IT WORK
Most children decide after their first lesson whether snowkiting is for them. This is why our lessons for kids are designed to let them experience what it’s all about.
Kid’s lessons are shorter than the adult lessons, usually 2 hours. This means the children remain captivated throughout the lesson. We don’t want to burn them out mentally or physically. Safety is our top priority when planning kids snowkiting lessons.
Kids should usually be at least 6 years old when they take their first lesson and we put in place many extra safety measures when teaching youngsters. We use a retractable leash throughout their kite and board training which ensures your children are always physically attached to an experienced instructor.
As our young students progress they will be offered more independence, but only when both instructor and youngster are both fully confident they are safe. Graykite’s teaching methodology focuses on positive affirmation in a safe and secure learning environment. This allows youngsters to excel and share our passion for snowkiting.
To maximise safety and progress children always learn in a private or semi private lessons. This ensures they get the direct supervision they need. The only other thing they really need is the desire to learn and passion to have fun. Well, that and expert tuition!
High adrenaline fun in a super-safe environment makes learning to snowkite the experience of a lifetime for many children. Hopefully that’s what they’ll tell you and all their friends back at school!
